No need to play the previous trilogy into order to jump to STALKER 2!.
Now if you wanted to know about the Lore by playing chrono to it, will be the following:
1 - S.T.A.L.K.E.R CLEAR SKY
2 - S.T.A.L.K.E.R SHADOW OF CHERNOBYL
3 - S.T.A.L.K.E.R CALL OF PRIPYAT
(THIS WOULD BE THE PROPER WAY TO PLAY CHRONOLOGICALLY)
NOW MY FELLOW STALKER, to recap DOES NOT affect to play first STALKER 2, but you might not understand it's lore (in-game) per se.
Shadow of Chernobyl was clearly designed to be stand-alone, whereas Clear Sky was designed to be a prequel. For instance Chernobyl has 7 different endings while Clear Sky mostly only has 1 ending and it's a very dumb one if you haven't already beaten Chernobyl. Clear Sky is also loaded with little references to Chernobyl that are quite nice, where references in Chernobyl to Clear Sky are completely incidental.
I would recommend playing the originals patched with the Zone Reclamation Project, Sky Reclamation Project, and Pripyat Reclamation Project. Those are basically the vanilla versions but with years of bug patches made by the community that are not included in the enhanced editions. Buying the enhanced edition should also add the original to your library.
It's still the weakest game in the series, but it's a lot closer than it would be otherwise. SoC > CoP >> CS instead of SoC > CoP >>>>>>>>>>>> CS.
In Shadow of Chernobyl the story makes a lot more sense that way + you meet and hear about a lot of the old NPC's from the earlier games, also helps you a little not to make the wrong choice in one mission.
OG SOC+ZRP and OG CS+SRP mods are more stable than enhanced edtion but look worse especially SOC.
EE edition looks better than vanilla since V1.3 and is 64 bit for some ppl might run better than the 32 bit OG.
For mee EE CS runs better and looks better than OG CS.
Stalker 2 has lot of charaters returning from Stalker 1 and many(almost all) locations in S1 are in S2.
All 3 protags the player played in S1 have a decent role in S2.
Gameplay wise Stalker COP is likely the closest to S2 when it comes to weapon durability artifacts, and side quest design.
That said COP is likely the easiest(but also most polished) Stalker so much easier than S2.
S2 difficulty is likely closer to CS if not slightly harder eg.stuff is expensive to upgrade and so on.
Story Wise:
Stalker CS is prequel to SOC and SOC is followed by COP.
CS likely uses 80% of the location from SOC with a few new areas.
COP is in an entirelly new area with nothing used from SOC or CS.
Best to play in release order.
Among the four Stalker games COP is polished the most,SOC and S2 are likely around the same jank and CS is the least polished with questionable game design like the homing grenades Cordon machine gunner where the avg.player has crap tier armor.
Stalker 2 is a much longer game and likely close to the lenght as all three Stalkers combind together.
Hi, friend! I sent you a friend request about this specific issue--would you accept and msg me? Promise not to pester you long....I just want to make sure I do this right. This was my deceased friend's favorite game series and he did not live to see S2 release.
