Does beating Lu Bu in the first encounter affect the story at all?
He wasn't too hard, just had to hit all the dodges and I'm getting good at keeping officers stun locked with heavy attacks using the long sword but it felt like I should have gotten more than a little praise from Cao Cao for that before saving him from the rest of the officers and armies in the area since he wouldn't run towards the exit. Gosh the the friendly officer's AI in this game is stupid, We ended up killing EVERYONE because of that, but does it change anything later on in the story or did I just get blue balled for all that work? I'm no hardcore gamer so that felt like an impressive feat for someone like me in my first attempt and play through, but I don't think I even got an achievement.

No it don't change it at all from what i've seen.

If you play this on hard mode when you figth Lu bu for the last time you need to beat up with out even healing once to get his weapon :P.

No you are mixing the two fights up. The last one where you fight just him requires using no healing or consumable items or picking up meat buns from vases. You get his horse Red Hare. The one at Hulo gate (don't remember the name) you can use anything you want as long as you play on Ultimate Warrior difficulty. You get his weapon.

I think the boss fight should have given the weapon because you fight him at full power and is way harder. The Gate one is hard only because you have to kill him before your other officers die.

There are a few fights that will change outcomes but you will know those if you see a Fate Altered message in big letters on screen afterwards.

Beating Lu Bu in that fight or Hulao Gate allows you to get maximum bond with him. (Though I might be wrong and it has to be the Hulao Gate one specifically)
