Is the demo final boss (Lu Bu) too difficult to beat?
I could not beat him on hard or medium, only easy and even then barely with heals. Did I do something wrong and was this supposed to be a very easy fight?

"Do not pursue Lu Bu."
He's incredibly difficult on normal difficulty. In my case, it took 12+ attempts to defeat him in the demo.
I figured there were some attacks I could parry but even with that it was too irritating and kept reminding me of Khazan and Black Myth Wukong, both of which I have not finished.
Anyways, I uninstalled it as it was incredibly frustratng to keep my party alive so they may assist in the final fight.

your "party" is scripted to eventually lose and make the majority of the fight a 1v1

Lu Bu in all DW games is always a force to be reckoned with. You're never supposed to really contend with him except for key points in story when he becomes a real blockade. The demo just had him in at that spot for a fun bit, it's a demo, and KT wanted to show off how strong he is. He normally isn't a Shisui gate, and first encountered in Hu Lao Gate, where, you're even given an option to take a path AROUND him to avoid his fight altogether.

Lu Bu is the most feared man in the Three Kingdoms at that time due to his insurmountable strength. It's a common trope, "Do not pursue Lu Bu", because of how overtuned he has always been reflected in the DW games.
That makes a lot of sense. I just sort of thought if I couldn't beat this demo on medium should I even buy the full game, and starting wondering am I turning into a gamer journalist.

Naaah, if you did fine in the rest of the demo you're good. Lu Bu is the exception, not the rule. c:

I gave it a second try and I was able to parry and dodge all other opponents just like in Sekiro, Black Myth Wukong and Khazan so it seems okay.

But I read somewhere that this is the first game that is parry focussed so I am thinking if giving some old PS2 versions a try first.

DW8:XL is the most accessible, I really loved DW4:E and DW5 for the most part. You can also try some of the Warriors Orochi games that are made from KT as well, but they mix the cast of the Samurai Warriors cast with Dynasty Warriors and then some. Samurai Warriors is great for a more Japan setting than China. I would recommend SW2 in that case.

You'll find parrying in the two of the PS2 games as well. It was introduced in DW4 and returns in DW5.

Edit: Just looked at DW2 again, just after guarding, you can do a counter attack to knock the enemy down. Two inputs instead of one, with the functionality of a parry - preventing damage and counter attacking to give you an opening.

Maybe it is not a good idea, since old versions like Warrior Orochi are quite different.

Yeah I just went back to Sekiro and got 2B game. Fast pased combat is more for me than this.
OP don't engage him in battles unless he's done the big swings, then you go in poke him twice with light attacks, if he staggers then continue the combo with a battle art then run away. He's the only one you cannot tank hits from ( even with items ) or you cannot evade by spamming. Same goes for hard -> ultimate difficulty. Then when you face him 1v1 at Xiapi you keep staying at a distance then poke if stagger oontinue the combo but be ready to disengage, save the ultimate attack for after he triggers his own musou on 1% hp and done. If you max everything out at rank 101 with the halberd he becomes more of a joke ( you get a cheap battle arts that lifts him in the air and you can put in more combos ) and you can even tank his hits and smolder him like everyone else but if you want to get the achievement you must still use the wait for swing -> poke -> stagger -> keep away/or combo playstyle.
