How to change the hard drive detected by non-steam launchers?
I recently installed Linux Fedora 42 with the plasma GUI after seeing a bunch of issues with Win 11. I learned about Heroic for GoG, and Bottles works for EA Apps. Lutris is worthless and works with nothing so I tossed it.
I wanted to install some non-steam games like Renegade X using stea since bottles don't work, but when the launchers start up, they only ever see my boot drive. I wanted to know if there was a way to change that so they see another hard drive as the default. I tried setting an older HDD as the default in Steam's settings to test, but it still only detected my boot drive.

is the other drive set to mount at system boot? the drive needs to be mounted before steam starts in order for steam to see it.
The version installed directly via Fedora's command lines. https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/gaming/proton/

Normal Steam sees all my drives. It's the launcher I boot through Steam (Battle.Net and Renegade X) that only see my primary drive, and I thought that was related to Steam's default drive and proton forcing the launcher to only see the default drive set in Steam's settings.

It's more related to the launchers, but I thought that gaming on Linux would be relatively easy with all these compatibility programs. Starting to think I'm going to be forced back into Windows.

I'm not sure what you mean by "seeing all drives". You did mount the drive in question somewhere into your file tree? And can't you just choose this directory then? Be aware that this is very different from what you're used to from Windows...

Everything is mounted, yes. When I start the battle.net launcher through steam it only shows a C and Z drive. I've been trying to use Winecfg to add the drives manually, but the only 'instructions' I see online concerning the pathways is 'Just link to the path, bro'. Real helpful stuff.

I'm seething right now. Nothing works. Winecfg in the prefix and adding drives changes nothing. What's the point of the winecfg config?

I'm not much into WINE, but I wouldn't expect anything else. There's one file tree in the Windows-like environment Steam/Proton are creating for you. You would need to have that environment (that exists per game) somewhere else.

It would create significant complexity if these environments would be split over several hard drives.

What are your trying to reach?
There's not enough space on the main drive?

Not enough space, no. The boot drive is meant to only house important files. Any games are meant to be elsewhere.

But if you need all your games somewhere else, it shouldn't be that hard? How about mounting /home on the big drive? Or steamapps (which seems to house the WINE environment)?

Followed a video for mounting a big drive in home. Changes nothing. Battle.net's launcher still can't see. Modifying the wine.cfg and pathing it to the mounting point does nothing.

Go it! The Z drive acts as your primary drive, and mounting a hard drive there using a partition manager allows you to install games there if you use a launcher via Steam

But, you don't need to "see" it!

As far as I can tell, Proton uses a directory under /home. So everything you install there is on the drive you mounted /home on!

If you mounted /home to some big drive, I propose you install a big game (plain to "C:/") and look which drive has been filled with data.

You're right. I followed a video and decided to try and reel in my frustration and checked the Z drive. Turns out the path I made led to the other hard drive. I was still thinking like a Windows user. I just switched a few days ago.

Welcome to the :signix:! ;)

I think Linux is sometimes more complex to administer, but it sure is... different. One needs to get used to some other stuff. (Like: Do not download programs from the web. (There might be exceptions. But not Steam.))
