Dude there's this Cider chick with a black tight suit with cakes.
Sadly, 7 of my friends didn't buy it because of woke.
That the characters aren't anime bikini babes and conan bootlegs?
The Dev responsible for the art of the game has been on record addressing what many call "uglification" and that it was a deliberate choice; hence the androgynous look of Galandra.
Galandra also appears to be a clear reference to a type of Orchid (Galeandra), which is an adopted symbol for the Trans community. Galandra also arguably has other Trans traits that I probably shouldn't get into.
The same Dev confirmed that Cider is indeed "non-binary", yes Cider is an automaton of some sort but the Dev's use of that term has strong connotations with gender ideology.
Brome was female before becoming male... granted he is a frog ;p you be the judge.
The "crimson" order (red=republican, just one interpretation), "supposedly" the bad guys are opposed to open boarders (hint hint...).
There are other story aspects that could be mentioned but they are more contested and up for interpretation.
And finally the game is partly subsidized by CNC and Creative Media Europe, that money is thought by many to come with strings attached, for instance DEI and ESG compliance and promoting EU "values".
Question: Are you not aware of the fact that red has been the colour of evil, at least in Western media, for long before the Republican party made itself as hated as it is today?
Aside from all that, most of your post is conjecture. References to what "many" think or call something are completely meaningless, as anyone can come up with nonsense and spread it on social media.
Well I will admit those seem like things that would make the people who decry a game as "WOKE! WOKE GAME!" get up in arms.
In Galandra's case it seems like people making assumptions because she's dressed like Guts.
Comparing Crimson Order to Republicans on the basis of red is a stretch, and I haven't gotten too far into the game to lore up.
Not that having a varied cast is a bad thing, and if anything the explicit representation is good.
Of course I'm biased. 🏳️⚧️
But I am thankful to you for answering my question.
