Oedipus and Narcissus must be 2 of the most unlucky people in ancient history, and frankly it makes me about as sad as Echo is currently to see and read it and hear it in real time. I WANT to enjoy Narcissus, I REALLY do... but I CAN'T...

The first thing that grew on me, but at first that I hated was that Chronos is MILDLY sexy in a creepy "Pale White Duke" David Bowie flavor kind of way, but the more I thought about the REAL Chronos and how this character IS a fill in for a literal baby eating and Gaia defiling MONSTIRREDEEMABLE S.O.B.! The more it dawned on me that we really DO have some deceptively attractive SEEMING at first people who WILL do GENEVA CHECKLIST ♥♥♥♥ TO ANYONE AND EVERYONE THEY CAN! Chronos being an ugly baby eating monster doesn't really require that he looks obviously ugly. The act is ugly enough, and most people wouldn't look good in the middle of doing something that unspeakable.

Seriously did anyone ELSE as a kid feel COMPLETELY JERKED AROUND by Disney's Speedrun of the Titanomachy (Titanomachy? More like Turderpeepeepoopoomachy amirite?), and Hades subsequent USED CAR SALESMAN VILLAIN PORTRAYAL?! WAT EVEN WAS THAT?!

Like... one of the things I utterly adore SuperGiantGames for is they're doing HEAVY LIFTING regarding showing MANY DIFFERENT VERSIONS OF GREEK MYTHOLOGY WHILE TEACHING AND RESPECTING AND NODDING AT AND LEANING ON CLASSIC INTERPRETATIONS WHILE ALSO DEVELOPING NEW MYTH THAT IS NOT EVEN MOST OF THE TIME REMOTELY OUT OF CHARACTER?!

Except when it would be smarter to allude to, or imply instead of out right showing how EFFED UP things are they usually choose to WRITE things, and leave it in there for you to notice yourself. Like the LOUT enemy from Hades 1 being basically a bunch of fat grapey ancient greek prison bubba's, THAT is cannon by the way. Have fun knowing Zag might have been cornholed if not for him dying and resurrecting fast enough....

Which brings us to IRL HISTORY AND PEDERASTY AND THE RAMPANT AMOUT OF CHILD GRAPING AND KILLING THAT WAS COMMON FOR THE PERIOD...

Um, everybody?... most of you probably think that Oedipus EVER wanted to EFF his mother... Y'all are killing me with this stuff, poor King Oedipus spends an entire lifetime trying to avoid boning his mom (because the prophecy said he would KILL HIS FATHER AND EFF HIS MOTHER AND IN THE PROCESS bring shame to himself, and ruin to his kingdom) only to wind up going on a epic tragiquest that winds up reuiniting himself his mother AFTER SPENDING HIS ENTIRE LIFE HAVING NEVER MET HER (OOOPS GUYS? MAYBE DON'T SPLIT THEM APART FROM BIRTH, AND MAKE THE LIKELIHOOD OF THIS GOING THIS WAY GO THROUGH THE ROOF? AND THEN YOU INTRODUCE THE FACT THAT HIS DAD HAD GONE BUG ♥♥♥♥ TYRANT CRAZY SO HE LITERALLY HAS JUST SAVED HIS MOM FROM HIS DAD...AND NEITHER OF THEM KNOW WHO THE OTHER IS WHEN IT HAPPENS, AND WHEN OEDIPUS FINDS OUT HE TEARS OUT HIS OWN EYES IN DESPAIR...ONLY TO BE NAMED AFTER A COMPLEX WHERE PEOPLE WANNA BANG THEIR OWN MOM'S? IRONIC CRUEL TWIST OF FATE... AT LEAST FREUD WAS TRYING TO BE IRONIC...

But Narcissus might have it even worse, because at least in the case of Oedipus you just have ignorance and people not reading the old tales to blame... with Narcissus?! This gets so much worse... FIRST of all... When everyone is trying to bang your butt as a kid, you MIGHT have a reason to not return those feelings that much??? I always had this take that Narcissus didn't fall in love with their own reflection at all, but actually hated themselves and how no one would leave them alone or try to get to know them or cheer them up or woo them without trying to just bang them. HELLO PEDERASTY IS LITERALLY SOMETHING YOU CAN BOIL DOWN TO... AND JUST PRETEND UR A YOUTH AND IM A FAT UGLY HAIRY OLD GREEK WITH A BONER WITH YOUR NAME ON IT K?

What if I were to tell you that there were translation errors, and lots of things to suggest we don't have many if any versions of these myths around anymore, and that in actuality we are really speculating until we find more things in ancient Greece, but that in and of itself is A REAL AND AMAZING ONGOING PROCESS DUE TO ARCHAEOLOGICAL ADVANCEMENTS!

Still though, the point I am dancing around is that Narcissus was born with a prophecy just like Oedipus. . .

The prophecy said that Narcissus would live a long happy healthy life if they never "got to know of themselves", which doesn't say anything about self love or falling in love with one's own reflection and implies self hate.

ALSO? What if Narcissus really was cursed to see someone other than their own reflection like some versions have suggested?

What if Narcissus simply saw themselves from the outside the way that so many people who lusted after them saw them for the first time and THAT UNDERSTANDING BROKE THEM?

Maybe it wasn't self love or self absorption whatsoever, but actually LOW SELF ESTEEM conflicting with and contrasting with HIGH SELF WORTH or HIGH MAINTENANCE NEED FOR...

What if they actually never were loved by another, but just SOUGHT AFTER as in YOU KNOW...?

That would make everything hit a lot harder, and make a lot more sense than pouty pretty smooch face the stuck up boy who can't just find a better mirror!!!!

Maybe they wanted a mutually intellectual, artistic, aesthetic, erotic, and romantic partner and the only one who would have ever been that was ECHO?!

This game is easy enough for me. . . and it's not even finished. I am having fun against the buff boss fights, I don't know what you all are doing wrong? Maybe don't crank the enemy buffs and player nerfs so hard?
